About the Metro Atlanta Kwanzaa Association
Since 1970, individuals and organizations have worked to promote Kwanzaa in Metro Atlanta. In 1986, this unofficial group became knows as the Atlanta Kwanzaa Committee. Project highlights worth noting are the annual Kwanzaa Resource Guide, City-Wide Umoja Celebration and the annual Juneteenth Celebration. The Association co-sponsors the movement to rename the West End to the Afrikan Village and is a participant in building a multipurpose Afrikan Center in Atlanta. MAKA is making plans to host events in larger venues in Atlanta and will take the Atlanta Kwanzaa celebrations to Afrika within five years.
